Milford State Park, near the resort

Milford State Park, the nature center, and the hatchery, and how they sit relative to Thunderbird.

A different park on the same lake

Milford State Park is on the southeast shore, northwest of Junction City. Public descriptions list a full-service marina, beaches, and trails there. It is not Thunderbird. Thunderbird is a private resort on the south end in West Rolling Hills, next to the Army Corps campground of that name.

Also nearby: the 1,100-acre Steve Lloyd Refuge, the Milford Nature Center, and the Milford Fish Hatchery below the dam. About 19,000 acres of public land sit on that side of the lake. The Corps manages more than 33,000 acres around Milford, and a large share is open to public hunting. Hunting rules are the Corps’ and the state’s.

Why people still stay here

Thunderbird is the camping that comes with this marina: RV sites, tent sites, on-site RV rentals, and the slips. The state park is the day trip when you want its trails or its beach. Junction City is about 5.6 miles from the resort in a straight line. Driving is longer. The resort address is 4725 West Rolling Hills, Junction City, KS 66441.

Book Thunderbird on CampLife for a nightly RV site, or call 785-238-5864 for a seasonal site. The resort season is April 1 through October 31, which is not the same thing as the lake being open.
