The fishing capital, from the south end
Milford Lake is the largest man-made lake in Kansas, about 15,700 acres with 163 miles of shoreline. The Junction City–Geary County economic development office calls it the Fishing Capital of Kansas, about five miles northwest of Junction City. Thunderbird Marina & RV Resort sits on the south end, in the West Rolling Hills area near the dam.
Milford Lake is known for walleye, crappie, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, white bass, wipers, blue catfish, channel catfish, flathead catfish, bluegill, and spotted bass. It is also a catfish lake, and it draws a lot of tournaments. Call us for current details if you need a tournament date.
Where people point you
Crappie like the coves in Rolling Hills and Curtis Creek, and we sit in West Rolling Hills. Smallmouth bass are on the dam face and the rocky points in the lower lake. The dam is the neighborhood. Call us for current details if you want a local read on the bite.
Slip holders at Thunderbird are permitted to fish from their rented slips. There is a fish cleaning station on A dock. Two boat ramps are inside the resort, including the North Boat Ramp with trailer parking, plus a courtesy dock.
Plan the boat around the season
RV sites and boat slips are open April 1 through October 31. Slip leases are by phone at 785-238-5864. If you only need the boat in the water for a night, CampLife has an Overnight Boat Slip filter, separate from a seasonal lease. Online RV booking closes at 7 PM. A slip page’s Book button opens that slip.
The marina store is on the water between the docks, with bait and lures. Call for the day’s hours. The fuel dock has unleaded, and the card reader on the building is marked 24HR.
